SMM, January 14: Silicon metal prices in east China edged lower. Standard #553 silicon metal in east China was priced at 10,700-10,800 yuan/mt, with the average price down by 50 yuan/mt; above-standard #553 silicon metal was priced at 10,900-11,100 yuan/mt, with the average price down by 100 yuan/mt; and #421 silicon metal was priced at 11,500-11,800 yuan/mt, with the average price down by 50 yuan/mt. This week, silicon metal producers reported that market transactions remained sluggish. Some silicon companies in Baoshan, Yunnan, originally planned to shut down furnaces on the 10th, but feedback indicated that the shutdown plan was postponed to month-end due to local power requirements. Additionally, end-user price suppression sentiment persists, and spot prices have led to significant losses, causing local producers to largely suspend quoting and shipments, opting instead to observe the market.
